Natural Hair Treatments for Hair Loss or Shedding

Quick Links:

Many of us struggle with hair loss / hair shedding as a result of a variety of factors such as stress, improper diet, medication, hereditary diseases, hormonal imbalance, etcetera. Depending on the underlying reasons, hair loss and/or hair shedding can be slowed down or stopped completely with making healthy changes all around and being consistent.

Before trying any of the hair treatments, try this:

Before trying any of the recommended hair treatments below, I’d suggest that you:

  1. Eat more plant-based foods. Our bodies’ outward ailments are usually an effect of our inward indulgence. Be sure to eat enough greens that will provide your body with vitamins and minerals daily. You can still take your muti-vitamin as a supplement, not a replacement, meaning you still need the greens.  Also, this isn’t a cry to be vegan/vegetarian, but more so to eat more plant-based foods, and less meat and carbs. If you sit down for a meal and look at your plate, majority of it should be plant-based.
  2. Try to wean off over the counter or prescription mediation, if possible. Some of the over the counter / prescription medication has a direct effect on our hormones, which in turn affects hair growth. Swap them out with natural herbs that have the same function. I.e. beets for high blood pressure, chasteberry for irregular periods etc. Be sure to check with your doctor before you making any medical changes. Also check with your doctor and ask specifically if shedding/hair loss is a side-effect of some of the medication you may be taking.
  3. Exercise and stretch at least 30mins per day. This will stimulate blood flow all over your body, including your scalp, which is needed for hair growth.
  4. Sleep at least 6-8 hours every night. Sleep will regenerate cells needed for hair growth, and slow down the breakdown of protein, which is what our hair is mostly made out of.

Once you start doing all the above consistently, you should be feeling energized and hopefully start to see a difference in your hair. Then you can move on to the supplemental hair treatments described below.
